Gmail is one of the greatest webmail services on the planet. One thing that has made Gmail so great is it's ability to keep spam out of your INBOX. Rarely do I get spam in my Gmail inbox.
However, I still get the Spam mail. It automatically goes into Gmail's "Spam" folder.
Lately, I've been getting twenty to thirty pieces of Spam in my Spam folder each day. This has resulted in over a thousand unread email in my Spam folder. The number of unread Spam messages is printed in bold next the link to the Spam folder.
Seeing Spam (1047) gives me a mild anxiety attack. I hate knowing that my precious email account is getting that much Spam. I hate knowing that I've got a Spam problem.
My solution: mark all Spam message as Read once Gmail places the message in my Spam folder.
To do this:
- Log into Gmail
- Go to Settings
- Go to Filters
- Click on "Create a new filter"
- in the "Has the words:" text field type "in:spam" without the quotation marks
- Click Next Step
- Click "OK"
- Check teh "Mark as read" checkbox
- Click "Create filter"
Now, it looks like I've got a Spam free Gmail account. Yet, all the Spam message that I get are still in the Spam folder. This little Gmail trick has made my Gmail experience a bit better.

I split this with Erin last night. I had salad and some mashed potatoes. She had some green stuff that grew out of the ground. We had some crab legs left over as we were either full or too tired to break into the rest of the legs. We watched people surf while we ate.
